Increased Rain Chances This Weekend, Hot and Humid Next Work Week

Friday

Happy Friday! Temperatures this afternoon will reach 88° for the high. Unfortunately, we have some pop-up storms in store for us this afternoon to end off our work week. The HRRR model shows these showers popping up between 12pm-2pm today and finally clearing out around midnight:

The NAM3k model agrees, but thinks that they will be a little more scattered than the HRRR is showing:

Some of these storms could be a bit strong, with the main threats including strong wind gusts, heavy rainfall, and lightning. These aren’t expected to be severe, the NWS-Nashville explains,

“Expect scattered showers and storms
again today. There will be some additional upper level support of
storms this afternoon as a shortwave heads our way, however shear
values will remain limited and so will the chances of severe
storms.”

If you have outdoor plans this afternoon, be sure to also have a plan in case of a pop-up storm as well. When thunder roars, go indoors!

The Weekend

Not exactly a picture perfect weekend ahead for us in Middle Tennessee, however not a complete washout. Showers and storms will increase through Sunday, with some lasting into the late evening hours.

Temperatures near 90° will be the high for Saturday. The NAM3k believes that we will remain partly sunny until late afternoon/evening:

[Editor’s Note: The 3km NAM has been underestimating storm coverage over the past few days. Expect decent storm chances Saturday.]

Sunday will be our greatest chance for more widespread rainfall. Partly sunny during the morning hours before storms develop in the afternoon, some being on the strong side. We will struggle to reach 90° for the high once again, with the rain holding our temperatures down in the late afternoon.

Beginning Of Next Week

Good news! Rain chances decrease as we progress through next work week! Temperatures will be a bit on the rise however, highs in the low to mid 90s and heat index values in the upper 90s and possibly even 100°. We can still expect a few pop-up afternoon showers through the work week, especially Monday, with chances decreasing as we progress toward the end of the work week.
