Winter Weather Advisory – NOW Through Midnight Tonight

Current Radar Loop 3:00 PM to 3:40 PM

Snow showers have already arrived to our northwest and continue to move towards us. We are still looking at 1″ to 2″ of total accumulation for those north of I-40 and less than an 1″ expected for those south of I-40.

Luckily, these snow showers should move through relatively quickly. The snow looks to push out into the late evening hours. Those north of I-40 may see a few lingering flurries as shown by the HRRR.

Road conditions: TDOT Smartway

Flights: Fly Nashville.

Road Conditions Will Continue to Get Worse Through the Afternoon & Evening

Bridges and overpasses have already begun to freeze, leading to multiple accidents throughout the area. Things will only worsen through the day. It is best to exercise caution at all times driving today as any ice that develops on the road may not be easily seen. My advice would be to stay off the roads if possible.

Into tonight and overnight, temps will remain below freezing so I wouldn’t be surprised if things iced over.

Additionally, your reports are very helpful in seeing the big picture of this ongoing event. Be sure to report what you see using the #tspotter throughout the day today and into tonight.

About the Long Holiday Weekend

Tomorrow and Sunday will both be pretty cold. Winds will remain a bit gusty on Saturday, leading to wind chill temps in the single digits in the AM and teens in the afternoon.

On Monday, we may see another chance of some snow in the late afternoon into the evening/overnight hours. Right now, this clipper event looks to be anywhere from a dusting to an inch of snowfall. This does appear to be more of an overnight snow event rather than an ice event at this point.

We still have a few more days to iron out more details, so more on this tomorrow.
